In class summary

The excerpt from exercise 3.4 discusses whether or not popular music is really a work of art, or is it just a fad that happened in the heat of the moment. The author sees classiscal music, such as Beethoven and Mozart, undoubtedly as works of art, but he struggles to classify music from Madonna and J-Z in the same catergory. The author breaks these two types of music into the catergories of serious and pop or fad music. These two categories are then compared as to how they are analyzed socially.
